About our service
We provide a wide range of both award-winning inpatient and outpatient urological services.
Our team run a patient centred service centred at Stepping Hill Hospital. We also provide a urological service at Tameside and Macclesfield hospitals, as well as peripheral clinics at Leighton General Hospital.
The urology unit was opened in 1989. It was one of the first of its kind in the country and has the facilities for patients to be seen and investigated fully during the course of a single visit.
Your GP, health or social care professional can refer you to our service if you are registered with a Stockport GP.
Before your visit to the outpatient department
Please aim to arrive no more than 15 minutes before your appointment time.
Should you feel you are going to be very late, please try to let us know by phoning 0161 419 5698.
If for some reason you are unable to attend and you need to change your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so that we may offer your appointment to somebody else. Please contact us on 0161 419 4010 between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
You may be at the hospital for approximately 2 to 3 hours. Please ensure that any personal / domestic arrangements are made, i.e., childcare. Please contact us if you wish to make an earlier appointment.
Remember to bring sufficient money to cover the cost of parking and refreshments. Beverages and light snacks are available from the Trust shop, restaurant or vending machines.
During your visit
On arrival at Basquill House or Lilac Suite (please refer to our appointment letter as to where you should report) a receptionist will welcome you. They will need your appointment letter / card and any information you have been asked to complete and bring with you. Should you wish to discuss your details in private, please do not hesitate to ask.
The Stepping Hill unit offers a variety of outpatient services in a purpose-built unit. There is a comfortable reception area with television and a water machine. Patients waiting times are minimised by a computer appointment system.
You will have your appointment with your consultant or a member of their team, where you will be given the opportunity to discuss any concerns you have, enabling you to participate in all decisions made about your healthcare. Where appropriate, you will be offered information about procedures and relevant health education available.
Information can be provided to patients/carers in a variety of different ways within the department.
After your visit
Should you undergo a procedure, where possible you will be made aware of the results and informed of any further investigations that may be required. After your appointment you will be given a choice of a date and time for your follow-up appointment.
There is extensive patient information concerning your condition, investigations and treatment that is provided on a national website for the British Association of Urological Surgeons. The link for this is http://www.baus.org.uk/patients
