Paediatrics (children’s services)

About our service

Our Paediatric Services are based in a dedicated purpose built Children’s unit, which is called the Treehouse Unit. The services are based over the three floors at Stepping Hill Hospital. 

They include the following: 

Paediatric outpatient services 

The ground floor of Treehouse hosts our paediatric outpatient service which includes a phlebotomy service, the Medical day case unit and the Child Development Unit. 

Paediatric same day emergency care

The Treehouse Ward, has a Same Day Emergency care area, accepting children directly from GPs, and other community health care professionals, the  Paediatric Emergency Department, and children who have been given open access to the unit. Children and young people  are reviewed by a dedicated Paediatric medical and nursing team. 

Paediatric surgical day case unit

The inpatient area has a dedicated Day case surgical area, for those children and young people requiring general surgical, ENT, Ophthalmology and urology elective procedures, supported by a pre op nurse led clinic.

Paediatric community nursing service.

The paediatric community nursing team, support Children within the Stockport area, remain at home preventing hospital admission, support early discharge form both the paediatric Emergency department and the Children’s ward. Run Clinics in the local area, for children to attend for nursing review

Specialist teams

The Paediatric Multi-disciplinary team support specialist services including  Epilepsy, Diabetes and Respiratory conditions. The Community Learning Disability team work closely with partner agencies supporting children and their families in the Stockport community. The service also has a dedicated Children’s Safeguarding team, providing advice and guidance and supervision to both inpatient and community services, and are part of Children’s Safeguarding partnership.
