About our service
Our expertise
The service specialises in supporting people to self-manage their condition and adapting treatment plans to support individual needs, for people with ME (Myalgic encephalomyelitis) / CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome).
Our management programme includes pacing and activity/energy management, relaxation techniques, managing stress, exercise/activity, guidance on sleep problems, support with vocational activities and activities of daily living, managing setbacks, and goal setting. We offer individual person-centred assessment, followed by one-to-one therapy and symptom management support, and group sessions delivered in clinic or virtually.
Our team consists of specialist Registered Nurses and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) wellbeing practitioner, and Chartered Physiotherapists, Dietitian and service Administrator, who all have specialist knowledge of ME/CFS and experience of working with individuals living with all presentations of illness severity.
We will support you to manage the physical and emotional impact of your condition, with the aim of maintaining or gradually increasing your physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. We will also support you in a return to work or education where this is appropriate.
Accessing the service:
Once diagnosed, referrals to the service are made by GP or hospital consultant. We do not currently accept self-referrals. There is no diagnostic test for ME/CFS and symptoms can be similar to other illnesses therefore, your doctor, will be required to take a full history, carry out some tests and rule out other conditions that may be causing your symptoms. Your doctor should consider ME/CFS if your symptoms cannot be explained by another cause and have lasted for at least four months.
Once a completed referral is received from your GP and accepted, we will offer you an appointment for assessment either by telephone or at one of our clinics.
