The inpatient service is provided at Stepping Hill Hospital, and the outpatient service is based at Heaton Norris Health Centre and provides outpatient clinics in a number of health centres around Stockport, as well as home visits when required.
About our service
Expertise
The SLT Department Provides a service to Adults with:
- Stroke
- Neurological impairments
- Head injury
- Degenerative conditions i.e. Parkinson`s Disease, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiplen Sclerosis and Dementia
- Cancer of the head, neck and throat
- Voice problems
- Stammering
The role of the SLT includes:
- Assessing swallow safety
- Providing recommendations on modified diet and fluid consistencies to aid swallow safety and/or comfort
- Providing therapy and strategies to improve swallow function
- Assessing and providing therapy for communication difficulties
- Providing support and information
- Training for communication partners
How to use the service
Your GP, health or social care professional can refer you to our outpatient service if you are registered with a Stockport GP.
Inpatients can be referred by the healthcare professionals on the ward.
